Listing 1898Maundyset New Listing 01/24/2007 1898 Maundy Mint Set ANACS MS 65 - 68, Monster Color Rainbow! The origin of the Maundy Ceremony dates to the reign of Edward II, when goods were given to the poor by the King. It was the time of Elizabeth I that started the giving redemption money in the place of gifts. For many years the coins given were circulating coins of the time, usually silver pence and other denominations, but it was not until about 1800 that special sets of coins were minted. Small silver coins were struck solely for use in the Maundy Ceremony after 1820. Personal presentation of Maundy sets by the King or Queen is a relatively recent phenomenon. Mundy coins are Great Brittan legal tender and should always total 10 pence. These Monster Toned coins make up a superb original set that is in pristine, ultra high grade condition. 1819, Rare Spanish Four Reale Coin, Authentic and pure silver! We just obtained this beautiful, authentic silver Reale coin in a large estate purchase. The coin is titled "FERDIN VII" on the obverse and "Hispan ET Ind REX $ 4R PI" on the reverse. The coins are all beautiful antique coins that have 208 grains of .903 Fine silver and they are very collectable. Often called Americas "first silver half dollar" there is a lot of history associated with these fine coins. The coin comes in a nice dark blue velvet colored case with velvet lining.
